i-Max : FCC catalyst Additive for Boosting LPG Yield
What is i-MAX?

i-MAX is a novel formulation of FCC catalyst additive based on ZSM-5 zeolite developed by IOC R&D Centre for boosting LPG yield in FCC/ RFCC units.

How is i-MAX different from other ZSM-5 additives?

The i-MAX additive boosts the LPG yield and also reduces bottom yield. It boosts LPG yield at the cost of bottom upgradation keeping the middle distillate yield constant whereas other additives boost LPG at the cost of middle distillate.

What are the advantages of using i-MAX in a FCC/RFCC unit?

The i-MAX additive boosts the LPG yield (2.5-3.6 wt%), marginally increases gasoline yield and its octane number and reduces bottom yield (0.7-1.5 wt%) in a FCC unit when added (5 wt%) with FCC catalyst.

What are the characteristics of i-MAX that differentiate it from other commercial additives?

Characteristics of i-MAX Additive
» The ZSM-5 zeolite is better dispersed in i-MAX formulation.
» Better binding technique makes it more attrition resistant that reduces loss as fines in FCC unit.
» Judicious mix of matrix component in formulation makes it suitable to upgrade bottom and increase LPG yield simultaneously.

How i-MAX additive boost LPG in FCC/ RFCC?

i-MAX is an additive based on ZSM-5 zeolite. The ZSM-5 zeolites are shape selective zeolites having
a pore size of 5.4 Å which leads to shape selective cracking of hydrocarbons and produces LPG.

What are the factors that determine the effectiveness of i-MAX additive?

The nature and characteristics of FCC/RFCC feed determine the effectiveness of the i-MAX additive as
it uses shape selective zeolite in its formulation which will allow only shape selective cracking.
