INDMAX: Residue Upgradation to LPG, Light Olefins and high Octane Gasoline
What is INDMAX Technology?

INDMAX Technology is a novel process developed by IOC R&D Centre for upgrading heavy hydrocarbon into LPG, light olefins and high-octane gasoline in the presence of a proprietary catalyst in a fluid bed reactor/ regenerator system.

What is the feedstock for a INDMAX unit?

The feed stock of INDMAX unit is heavy hydrocarbon residue which includes Short Residue (SR), Reduced Crude Oil (RCO) and Heavy Vacuum Gas Oil (HVGO).

What are the products of INDMAX unit?

The products of INDMAX unit is mainly liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG 40-65 wt% of fresh feed) containing high quantity on olefins such as Propylene (17-25 wt% of fresh feed) and butylene (20-28 wt% of fresh feed). It also produces high octane (95+) gasoline.

What are the advantages of INDMAX Technology?

The advantages of INDMAX Technology are
» Up gradation of low value heavy hydrocarbons into high value LPG and light high octane distillates
» Can process feedstocks with CCR level of 5.0 wt% .
» Catalyst can withstand the high metal level in the feed specially vanadium.
» Process is economical and gives better return on investment.

How is INDMAX different from FCC/ RFCC?

INDMAX is different to FCC/RFCC on the following aspects
» In the case of INDMAX Cat/ Oil Ratio is very high (15-25) as compared to FCC/RFCC (4-7) which ensures heat transportation from regenerator to reactor.
» The reaction temperature is high (550-570ºC)
» The catalyst composition is also different from FCC/RFCC.

How is INDMAX different from DCC?

INDMAX differs from DCC as it produces more yield of LPG, light olefins and middle distillates and reduces yield of coke, dry gas and bottom. INDMAX operates at high cat/ oil ratio (15-25) whereas DCC operates at low cat/ oil (7-12). Also reactor pressure is low in the case of INDMAX.

What are the characteristics of the catalyst used in INDMAX?

INDMAX employs proprietary catalyst, which has three synergistic multifunctional components. The bottom-cracking component upgrades bottomand shape selective component allows selective cracking to light olefins without increasing the coke and dry gas make. The third component contains ultra-stable Y zeolite, which shows synergistic effect with the other two components of the catalyst.
