Indian
Oil Corporation Ltd., Research & Development Centre |
 |

Indian
Oil Corporation Ltd. was the first oil company in the country
to venture into research and development in the area of lubricants
and refining process technologies with the establishment of
a full-fledged Research and Development Centre at Faridabad
in 1972. Beginning with import substitution of lubricating oil
and grease formulations of the 70's, this Centre has, over the
years, acquired the capabilities to develop products meeting
the latest international specifications as well as customized
products to meet special application requirements.
|
Research
in selected refining processes, including catalysis, is a major
activity aimed at upgradation and optimization of existing process
technologies like FCC, distillation, hydroprocessing, lube processing,
reforming, coking, visbreaking, merox etc., and development
of new process technologies for value addition, quality upgradation
and distillate yield maximization. Pipeline transportaion of
crude and products, condition monitoring of pipelines, development
of pour point depressants for waxy crudes, drag reducers, development
of instrumented pig etc., constitute another core area of R&D
activities. Material failure analysis and residual life assessment
of refinery equipment, pipeline and marketing installations,
crude evaluation, crude assay data management, simulation and
modelling are other specialized areas in which expertise has
been developed. |
IndianOil
R&D Centre is equipped with a number of unique
world class laboratories and pilot plant facilities making it
the only one of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. It has
many outstanding inventions to its credit which have won a number
of prestigious national and internaional awards. It was the
first petroleum R&D organization in India to obtain ISO-9001
accreditation for quality system and ISO-14001 for environment
management. It is looking forward to offering consultancy services
abroad in the areas of lubricant formulation technology, selected
refining processes, material failure analysis, remaining life
assessment of equipment and installations, setting up of R&D
laboratories etc. |
